Yoga for Beginners
November 28 @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm
Yoga for Beginners
Dr. Susan Bright and Klara Kroupa
This weekly recurring yoga class focuses on foundation, alignment and the sequential building of poses as well as breathing techniques, from the basic to complex. If you are new, or newer to yoga or perhaps are looking for a refresher of the yoga basics – this class is for you.
Poses are demonstrated, broken down and instructed in easy sequential steps so that students are able to set the foundation and form of a safe and practical practice from the ground up.
Terminology and sequences are explained to help students become more familiar and comfortable with the language of yoga. The use of props is strongly encouraged and incorporated into each class to make poses accessible for all levels of movement/athletic experience and/or potential mobility issues.
It is not meant to be a ‘gentle’ or ‘restorative’ class – instead, it emphasizes bringing strength and flexibility to areas of the body often affected by mobility challenges, aging, sports injury or overuse; mainly the shoulders, hips, quadriceps, hamstrings and lower backs. It will also introduce the connection between mind and body. This class will be tailored to be as challenging as the student wishes.
What do I need for the class?
- Wear warm comfy, stretchable clothing – no jeans, belts etc.
- A block or 2 (books, large soup cans can substitute)
- A strap (a belt, scarf or piece of rope can substitute)
For your first class please arrive a few minutes early to discuss any potential mobility issues.
